The Technological Singularity (as theorized and discussed by luminaries such as John von Neumann, Stanislaw Ulam, Hans Moravec, Vernor Vinge, and Ray Kurzweil among many others) will have a direct impact upon Human intelligence and evolutionary growth. As nation-states meet the challenges of exponential growth in technological and scientific knowledge from 2020 to 2060, there will be an even more complex set of challenges and decisions for every person on the planet. The ability of individuals by 2060 to have the intelligence and capability of millions of people in 2017 will cause the greatest shift in power and capability from the nation-state to the individual that Humanity has ever witnessed.Add Improvement
This idea is a logical extension on how the intelligence and capability of individual Human beings will be enhanced and augmented by ever increasing scientific breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence, Genetics, Nanotechnology, and Robotics (as expounded in Ray Kurzweil's The Singularity is Near, among other works by him and many others). Whether or not this will have a liberating effect on the individual remains to be seen, as it is clear that these technologies could also imprison Humanity.
If Human evolution merges with exponential growth in Artificial Intelligence, Genetics, Nanotechnology, and Robotics, then we might see a post-biological stage of Humanity. This would fundamentally change what it means to be Human, and significantly impact the concepts and function of Human demographics, economics, national power, and spirituality. In essence, the Singularity could result in a mass migration of individuals away from planet Earth in an effort to maintain their independence.
