Obscurant-dusting Drones

Describe your idea

Use Drone swarms outfitted like crop-dusters to spread obscurants over a localized battlespace to effect an engagement. US is working on "brown-out" vision systems to land rotorcraft, and these systems could be used by ground forces to see through a "brown-out" caused by obscurant scattering drones.

It might be possible to use artificial particle materials for different purposes. Some that blocks IR or dense enough to interfere with laser beam, Magnetic powder compounds that mess with instrumentation and adhere to robot and technical equipment, Or signal interfering material to affect communications.

What makes this idea new or different?

The US used to "own the night", now it can "own the environment".

In certain environments (desert/snow) the robots wouldn't even need to disperse anything, just fly low and slow enough to raise sufficient snow/dust clouds.
Add Improvement

What will be the implications of this idea?

Opponents would be completely blinded by the obscurants but US forces would be able to see through them. This could also be used against rioters.

Due to small payload on aircraft the effect would be limited in both duration and area. Recommend addition of ground-based robotic systems for primary delivery, with air-based systems for quick reaction and spot delivery.
