Quantum-Based High-Orbit SatComms

Describe your idea

Quantum-based communications systems cannot be jammed. I'm not a quantum physicist, but I have read a couple of open-source papers that suggest the People's Republic of China is fielding a quantum-based satellite communications system that we will not be able to intercept or jam. Fielding a quantum-based SatComms system in high orbit would remove it from most space junk and from existing Anti-Satellite (ASAT) systems.

Quantum communications is essentially focused on the encryption aspect. Any communication can be intercepted, but its still secure if it can't be broken. What I would suggest for improving it is making it a secondary payload package on multiple satellites. Even sats in geo orbit can be destroyed - we have the tech to get the sat there so we have (or will) have the tech to get a device there to destroy it. So make it a part of so many devices you can't knock them all down.

What makes this idea new or different?

Quantum-based satellite communications employs cutting-edge physics. We do not yet know how to jam or intercept these systems. In high earth orbit these satellites would be out of range of most operational ASAT systems.

What will be the implications of this idea?

Placing such a system in high orbit would complicate the problem of attacking it kinetically. The only way to disable such a system would be to destroy its ground station or attack and disable the satellite in orbit.

I'm not sure about jamming, but I think quantum messages can be intercepted. They just can't be intercepted without the original recipient knowing when it does arrive.
