Conduct initial colonization through the use of robots and avatars. This would allow experts to be "present" to establish infrastructure on Mars or other bodies, while reducing the human burden on these individuals until such time as basic infrastructure is in place. Alternatively, a few humans could be supported by a larger team of robots and avatars. This would allow a skeleton crew with reach-back to specific individuals to make the operation less lonely and more collaborative, while piloting robot space colonization.Add Improvement
This takes a hybrid approach to using humans as avatars or in combination with robots and avatars to lay initial groundwork for colonization of the moon and other planets.Add Improvement
This could greatly expand our reach, and ability to lay foundational infrastructure for colonization of nearby moons and planets. The risks to human space travelers would be reduced, at least initially during the ramp-up phase. Use of avatars could allow for human "experience" and expertise, without the burdens and the risks.
